Terms of use

About these terms

Curtain Up (curtainup.uk) is run by [LEGAL NAME OF OPERATOR], [registered address] (“we”, “us”). These terms apply when you make a gift on Curtain Up, or open one. Our privacy notice explains how we handle personal data. Contact: [email protected].

Curtain Up is in a test phase with a small number of theatres and families. It will change as we learn, and some features may not work perfectly yet.

What Curtain Up is

Curtain Up adds a gift to theatre tickets you've bought: a short spoken message from a character in the show, a countdown to the performance and small surprises along the way, at a private link you can pass on. [It is free with your tickets / Price to confirm.]

Your tickets are sold by the theatre, under the theatre's own terms. Curtain Up isn't a ticket, doesn't get anyone into the theatre, and doesn't change your booking. Questions about tickets, refunds, exchanges, seating or access go to the theatre.

The voices are AI

The character voices are made by computer (AI) with ElevenLabs. They are not recordings of the cast, and the real performers' voices are never copied or imitated. Characters, artwork, music and video belong to the show's producers and the theatre, and are used with their permission.

AI voices can mispronounce words. You can hear the whole message before you send it, and you can record yourself saying a name so the character says it your way.

Making a gift

To make a gift you must be 18 or over and have bought, or be buying, tickets for the show. When you make a gift you agree that:

A word check refuses some words, and we may change or remove a gift that breaks these rules, or stop you making more. We'll tell you if we can.

Each gift has a private link. Anyone with the link can open the gift, and the gift page shows the person's name with the show, date and seats, like a ticket. Treat the link like a ticket: share it only with the person it's for. If you think a link has got into the wrong hands, email us and we'll take the gift down.

A gift stays available until 45 days after the show, and then we delete it, with any recordings. Save anything you want to keep before then.

If the show changes

If a performance is cancelled or moved, the theatre will deal with your tickets. We'll update the gift where we can, or show the theatre's message on the gift page. Curtain Up doesn't give refunds for tickets.

What you can do with Curtain Up

You may use Curtain Up and your gift for your own personal, non-commercial use: making it, sharing the link with the person it's for, and watching it. You may not copy, sell or republish the show's characters, artwork, music or video, or the site itself. You keep any rights in the names and recordings you give us, and you let us use them only to make and deliver your gift, as described in our privacy notice.

Our responsibility to you

We take care to make Curtain Up work well and to keep it available, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors, especially during testing. We aren't responsible for a theatre's tickets or performance, or for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. [Cap on liability, if any, to be set by the lawyer.]

If you're in the UK

Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 aren't affected by these terms: digital content we supply must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. If it isn't, tell us and we'll put it right. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring a claim in your local courts.

If you're in the US

To the extent the law allows, Curtain Up is provided “as is”, without warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Some states don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you, and you may have other rights. These terms are governed by the laws of [State], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. [Dispute resolution and venue to be set by the lawyer.]

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Curtain Up changes. The date at the top shows the latest version; the version in place when you made your gift applies to that gift.
